Christie's Shanghai Auctions to Celebrate 40 Years in Asia
Christie's will present a special series of actions and events during Shanghai Art Week in November, celebrating the 40th anniversary of its presence in Asia.
Marking 13 consecutive years on the Chinese mainland, the auction house will bring together exceptional works of art, jewelry and watches, offering collectors a diverse selection spanning Eastern and Western artistic traditions.
The 20th & 21st Century Evening Sale brings together contemporary art from East and West. From modernist masters Zao Wou-Ki and Chu Teh-Chun to Liu Ye, Zeng Fanzhi, Zhang Enli, Hu Xiaoyuan and Xie Lei, the sale highlights the diversity of Chinese art across generations and styles. Works by international artists, including Pablo Picasso, Yayoi Kusama and Annie Morris, will also be presented, fostering cross-cultural dialogue and catering to collectors' diverse tastes.
The other evening sale will spotlight jewelry and watches, presenting more than 30 rare and iconic pieces that combine aesthetic appeal with collectible value. Highlights include a 90.80-carat colored diamond and diamond "Starlight" necklace, alongside a commemorative timepiece marking Patek Philippe's 10th anniversary in Shanghai.
Following the success of the John Shaw's Patek Philippe Collection Auction in Hong Kong last year, Christie's Shanghai will also present Part II of the collection this season.
Beyond the auctions, Christie's will host special events with partners at its Shanghai Art Space during the preview, providing opportunities for collectors and art enthusiasts to exchange ideas and explore different aspects of collecting. Online bidding will also be available, allowing collectors worldwide to join.
"China has always been a market of great importance to Christie's," said Rebecca Yang, deputy chairman of Christie's Asia Pacific and chairman of Christie's China. "We look forward to welcoming collectors and art enthusiasts to our November auctions and events."
As Christie's celebrates its 40th anniversary in Asia in 2026, it looks back on four decades of growth across the region, marked by landmark auctions of rare masterpieces and collections, record-breaking sales and pioneering digital innovation. To commemorate this milestone, Christie's is presenting a yearlong program of specially curated art and luxury auctions, exhibitions and events across Asia.
